Young Joe at Bentalls !

Created by Peter 6 years ago
Joe was always a very kind and thoughtful person as I know very well. I first met Joe when I started work at Bentalls in Kingston aged just 17. Joe was then 22 and drove from Chertsey each day, passing through Walton, where I was living. Whenever he saw me waiting at the bus stop he would give me a lift to work, saving me the bus fare of 1/3d (about 6p). Joe always refused to take any money for petrol and this meant that, as a lowly paid student, I was able to go to the cinema on my day off.
In later years when I was working in Staines, Joe would always give me a call when he was in town to visit his dentist and we would often go for a coffee which Joe, invariably, wanted to pay for. At least I was able to repay his earlier kindness and treat him.
